E pluribus unum

Almost 10 years ago my family and I arrived to the beautiful city of Austin TX to start a new (and supposedly temporary) adventure. To leave family and friends and the life that seemed “normal” to us behind wasn’t an easy decision. In our new life we needed very quickly to adapt ourselves to a ton of new situations: language, culture, school, jobs, new friends, new activities, etc. We always say that we were “forced” to grow as a family like in a pressure cooker without the day to day support of our extended family and friends. Back then we didn’t know how deep our ties to this new country would grow and how quickly we would start naming Austin as our home.

So, after almost 10 years, we just finalized our process to become U.S. citizens.

During my oath ceremony, I was able to listen to many stories, some similar to mine but most of them very different that talked about struggle, sacrifices and many decades to achieve. I realized that all new citizens are coming from very different backgrounds and for different reasons but all share something bigger: a sense of pride and honor once this objective is achieved. E pluribus unum

And don’t get me wrong, we still love our Mexico very deeply. Our ties, our families and friends and our memories are still there and we will keep doing whatever is in our hands to contribute and help Mexico to be an even better place. Mexico is our birthplace and our roots will be always there. Voluntarily now we have adopted new responsibilities to do our best to help our new country to become a better place as well. Help is always needed and there is always something we could to do in order to affect the lives of all around us in a positive way. We have brought to the U.S. two writers, two musicians, two yogis, a yoga teacher, a TKD black belt, a goalkeeper, a dancer, two singers, a salesman, five dog lovers and Shih Tzu enthusiasts. In summary, a family of five ready to contribute in our best possible way using this newly expanded horizon. The best is yet to come

Originally from Mexico City, I've been living in Austin TX. since 2009. For the past 20+years I've been working on multinational technology companies selling complex solutions. During all these years, I've been able to travel a lot and to interact with people from all around the world. My background is as an Electronic Engineer but very soon in my career, I realized I preferred to deal with people than with machines. Later on I found that I could use technology to help real people to solve real problems.
I'm a music lover and, in some degree, I can play piano and guitar. I love to read, in particular science fiction and fantasy. Isaac Asimov is probably my favorite author.
